About Marrakech
Marrakech is a historic and vibrant city in the Kingdom of Morocco, blending centuries-old culture with modern comforts. It is well connected by air and road and is a popular destination for international visitors. The local currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD), and major hotels, restaurants, and shops widely accept international credit cards, though cash is often preferred for smaller purchases or in local markets.

Visa Requirements for Morocco
Many countries benefit from visa-free entry for short stays (typically up to 90 days), including citizens of the European Union, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and several others.
If your nationality is not on the visa-exempt list, you will need to apply for a visa prior to traveling. Morocco does not currently offer visa-on-arrival for most visitors, so eligible travelers must obtain an entry visa from a Moroccan embassy or consulate in advance. Participants who need an official invitation letter for visa purposes are kindly requested to contact the conference manager at [email protected].
Morocco operates an official electronic visa (eVisa) system for tourism and business visitors from certain countries. Eligible applicants can apply online through the official portal (Accès Maroc) and receive their visa electronically before travel.
When applying for a visa, typical requirements include:
- A valid passport with sufficient remaining validity (generally at least 3–6 months beyond intended stay).
- A completed visa application form.
- Recent passport-style photos.
- Proof of accommodation (hotel/booking confirmation).
- Return or onward travel tickets.
- Additional supporting documents as required by the Moroccan consulate.
Important: An official conference invitation letter may facilitate your visa application. Please contact the EMGN-26 manager if you require this to support your application.
Upon entry into Morocco, all visitors must carry a valid passport. Some nationals are required to ensure that their passport remains valid for at least three months beyond the date of entry, and Moroccan border authorities may also request proof of sufficient financial means and confirmed accommodation.
Traveling to Marrakech
By Air: Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) is the main international gateway with flights from Europe, North Africa, and beyond.
Ground Transportation: Taxis, ride-sharing services, and shuttle options are readily available from the airport to city hotels. Plan around peak traffic hours.
Local Currency & Payments: ATMs are widespread in Marrakech, but small vendors may accept cash only. Credit cards are commonly accepted in hotels and restaurants.
Practical Travel Tips
- Tourist Tax: Some hotels and riads may charge a small tourist tax (taxe de séjour) per person, per night.
- Travel Insurance: We strongly recommend travel insurance covering medical care and trip cancellation.
- Local Laws & Customs: Morocco is culturally rich and relatively conservative; dress modestly, particularly at religious sites.
